EVER-POPULAR
CAMBRIDGE TOFFEE/ONYX NOW AVAILABLE IN THREE COLLECTIONS - The
Renaissance, RoundTable & Crusader Collections
By Charlie Tesauro, Cambridge Sales Specialist
Toffee/Onyx Blend enjoyed a No. 1 sales ranking in 2005. Up until now,
Toffee/Onyx was only available in 4 x 8 Holland, 6 x 6, 6 x 9, 12 x 12
and 8 in. Bullnose from The Renaissance Collection crafted with EuroTec.
Its popularity can be attributed to how well the shade works with so many
other colors and also because of its similarity to hues found in natural
stone. Due to customer demand, Cambridge has introduced Toffee/Onyx into
these two other collections with ArmorTec early in 2006, where its reception
is already widely acclaimed:
- The RoundTable Collection in 6 x 6 and 6 x 9.
- The Crusader Collection in 12 in. Bullnose.
Because
Cambridge 6 x 6 and 6 x 9 are both our most popular shapes and The RoundTable
Collection is currently seen in more and more projects, we felt that it
made sense to add Toffee/Onyx to the available colors. I’m sure
that you will agree that the natural shades work beautifully with the
embossed surface and rolled edges exclusive to RoundTable.
Needless to say, our 12 in. Bullnose is always a best choice for special
applications such as pool coping and steps. Our 12 in. Bullnose is offered
with ArmorTec and also distressed, crafted with EuroTec. With the Toffee/Onyx
addition to 12 in. Bullnose in Crusader, contractors can now complete
a pool deck, stoop or other pavement design that has a Toffee/Onyx field
by matching with Toffee/Onyx Bullnose distressed or now with ArmorTec.
The Cambridge ColorLab has been busy in 2005 and the results in the
Toffee/Onyx group are up to par with all of the other Cambridge Blends.
See for yourself.

New Cambridge
Color Guide Offers Accurate Color Swatches Plus Ideas For Coordinates
Our
new Cambridge Color Guide has been in the planning and development phase
for over a year and is being published in time for the 2006 season. It
replaces both the ArmorTec and EuroTec Cambridge Color Boards, which are
now obsolete.
All New Features
The printed poster-style guide will be easier to carry around and a perfect
leave behind piece. It will contain features not previously part of the
Color Boards. 1. All of the Cambridge Solid Colors and
Blends, digitally mastered into swatches that were computer-matched to
actual pavingstone samples, will be displayed in a single sister-piece
to the Cambridge DesignScaping Idea Book brochure. 2.
Below the ArmorTec swatches you will find suggested coordinating colors
for borders and banding. 3. Colors available on Cambridge
Wall Systems will also be portrayed. 4. A Color Availability
Chart will be printed on the backside for easy reference when working
with a customer.
Contractor-customers can receive Cambridge Color Guides from their Authorized
Cambridge Distributor. It is still recommended that final selections be
made from actual samples obtained from a distributor.

A Message To Our Readers
By Charles H. Gamarekian
Chairman/CEO Cambridge Pavers Inc.
As we begin the 2006 season, Cambridge continues its ongoing commitment
to our contractor-customers. For over twenty years, I have understood
that the professional installer is the most important component
in the producer/contractor/distributor relationship. The quality-conscious
installer of interlocking concrete systems is the “daily messenger”
in the pavement marketplace — and can greatly impact the future
of our industry.
Still in its infancy in North America, many nations in other parts
of the world provide five to ten times the area of segmental paving
per capita. Professional installers here in America have the greatest
ability to foster the choice of interlocking pavements as a viable
alternative to traditionally accepted products like asphalt, poured
and stamped concrete and clay brick. We know that segmental concrete
pavements address the total environmental design needs of the 21st
century — ecological, energy, safety and visual design. And
“quality” is the best catalyst to carry the message
to every corner of the American market.
Quality Is The Cornerstone Of The Cambridge Corporate Philosophy
Cambridge introduced ArmorTec in 1995. This remarkable process is
now synonymous with “quality” in the concrete paver
marketplace. For many years, through our network of Authorized Cambridge
Distributors, Cambridge has exposed its contractor-customers to
“quality” installation methods through Contractor Clinics
and Cambridge-sponsored
ICPI Certification Courses, local ICPI Chapters and site/field visits
by Cambridge Sales Specialists. Last year, Cambridge became the
only producer to sponsor the new “School for Advanced Segmental
Paving” located at the PAVE TECH Training Center in Franksville,
Wisconsin — the first institution of its kind in North America
dedicated to promoting “quality” installation among
skilled craftsmen through hands-on training.
Eighth International Conference On Concrete Block Paving
I invite contractors, specifiers and designers to attend the Eighth
International Conference on Concrete Block Paving, hosted by the
Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute Foundation on November
6-8, 2006 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, California. It
is an honor to serve as Chairman. We are pleased to have the Transportation
& Development Institute (T&DI) of the American Society of
Civil Engineers and the American Society of Landscape Architects
(ASLA) as co-sponsors. Since 1980, this international conference
is held every three years. This is the first time that the event
is being held in the United States, where the focus is to further
the use of concrete pavers in North America and educate on their
proper installation.
As Chairman, I am very excited about the 2006 theme — “Sustainable
Paving for the Future” — as well as the program, required
papers and selection of instructors. Two years in the planning,
the curriculum, which is influenced by industry professionals and
persons from leading academic institutions worldwide, speaks to
important topics such as permeable pavement solutions, Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), design for the disabled
and also international trends in marketing segmental pavements to
residential, commercial and municipal users. Technical sessions
will also include quality control and quality assurance in specifications,
construction, and manual and mechanical installation.
Representatives will include architects, engineers, professors and
contractors.
I urge you to include this important event in your plans for 2006.

Paver
Light Installation Tip
Cambridge offers three Paver Lights that are available in three
different configurations — 4 x 8, 6 x 6 and 6 x 9. The 6
x 6 and 6 x 9 Paver Light models have high strength plastic lenses,
molded to the shape of a paver. Holes are typically cut in the
plastic to enable the wire connector to exit from the fixture.
When installing 6 x 9 Paver Lights along a soldier course, you
can cut out the exit holes on the sides (See drawing).
Since most
borders are laid last, it is easier to lay the wire with holes
on the sides. We have recommended to our light manufacturer to
include side holes.

The
2006 Cambridge Wall Program Offers Quality, Versatility And Continuity

In this edition of Cambridge Campus, I will present an overview
of the characteristics and design possibilities of each system offered
by Cambridge.
Cambridge MaytRx® 3 & 6 Double-Sided Multi-Face
Wall System
Cambridge MaytRx® 3 and MaytRx 6 are the most versatile wall
units on the market today! Four different double-sided, trapezoid
shaped wall stones, designated A, B, X and Y, offer five different
face sizes. Each MaytRx wall stone comes in two different heights:
3 in. (MaytRx 3 – new for 2006) and 6 in. (MaytRx 6) and two
different face styles: MaytRx Split Face and MaytRx Renaissance
Stone. MaytRx is ideal for freestanding walls with a finished face
on both sides, retaining walls, steps, circles, columns and more.
Caps are also available. The MaytRx Cap stone (3 in. thick and 11
in. front to back) has two faces and gives a face appearance on
both sides of freestanding stone fences and barrier walls. The Cap
also gives a finished look to the back of a retaining wall that
extends above grade. Splitting existing units makes corners. An
attractive freestyle appearance can be achieved by randomly placing
the five face sizes available on the four stones. A 3-D effect can
be added by placing capstones on end as a soldier that spans two
layers (12 in.) of the wall with the capstone protruding 1/2 inch
off the face of the wall. Use MaytRx 3 (3 in. high) for walls up
to 3 ft. high and not for engineered walls. Pins are not available
for MaytRx 3. MaytRx 6 (6 in. high) is designed for walls up to
3 ft. high (without pins) or engineered walls (with pins and geogrid)
of any height.
Wall stones are easily placed using the alignment groove that visually
matches up the next stone in line. By randomly mixing 3 in. and
6 in. heights, a unique natural wall look up to 3 ft. high can be
built. No pins are required or available for this type of installation.
Cambridge Pyzique® Double-Sided
Wall System
Also finished on both sides, the reversible, trapezoidal shape provides
a beautiful stone finish on both sides and its own interlock to
deter shifting. The front face is 11 inches wide and the back is
7 inches. The depth of the wall unit is 9 inches. Cambridge Pyzique
Wall Units are also offered in two styles: Pyzique Split Face and
Pyzique Renaissance Stone.

Cambridge Pyzique is ideal for freestanding walls, knee walls around
patios and retaining walls up to 3 ft. high in straight and curved
designs; tree rings and garden borders; raised patios; sitting walls;
and steps... paver edging, too. Build a vertically straight (90
degree) wall or use built-in grooves on the top of wall units for
a 5/8 inch set back on courses.
A unique feature is that one wall unit also creates a corner and
cap. To make a square corner, simply split one wall unit in half,
front to back through the middle. To make a capstone, just turn
Pyzique units upside down.
An elevated circular stone fire pit and barbeque can be created
using our optional steel fire ring insert and dual opposing cooking
grates.
Cambridge Renaissance Stone Single-Sided Wall Systems
Cambridge Renaissance Stone wall units are lightweight and easy
to install because courses are positioned similar to a natural stone
wall. The system offers a natural looking rock face. The front face
measures 12 inches wide. The back and depth are 9 inches. Retaining
walls can be created in almost any shape – straight, curved
or serpentine. Use around a raised landscape bed, to encircle a
tree or as a stable retaining wall up to 28 inches high.
Circles can be built as small as 5 feet in diameter.
Versatile Caps Are An Important Part Of The Wall Program.
Another important feature is that MaytRx® Split Face and MaytRx
Renaissance Stone Caps can also be used on Pyzique and Renaissance
Stone Wall Systems.
Also for engineered walls, Cambridge is your source for Allan Wall
Systems.

Systems and How to Install pages at www.cambridgepavers.com and

Leverage
For Success During
The Spring 2006 Cambridge Corporate TV Campaign
By Charlie Tesauro, Cambridge Sales Specialist
Our 2006 corporate television advertising campaign will run from
May through June on ABC and NBC network stations and various cable
systems in the NY Metro, Baltimore and Washington D.C. markets.
Be ready for increased phone calls and walk-ins. Here’s
how:
-
Track how they heard about you
and Cambridge Pavingstones
-
If prospects call and ask for
a price quote, respond by inviting them to come in first and
see your outdoor displays. Ask them to bring in a digital photo
of the area to be paved. Then tell them that you can show how
their driveway, patio or walkway will look with any Cambridge
Pavingstone shape or color by using your DesignScape Visualizer
software.
-
If they insist on price, remember
the large box stores quote Holland and Cobble by the piece,
not the square foot. Do the same.
If you are located in one of the
markets mentioned above and plan to run
co-op ads on your local television, piggyback your schedule to coincide
with the Cambridge corporate run dates. This will give your message
greater retention. Your Cambridge Sales Specialist will make a schedule
available to you. But remember, television and radio advertising
must be placed through CDA Media, our authorized media buyers, in
order to be eligible for Co-Op Rewards Credits at the full 100%.
For more information or to place advertising through CDA, contact
Charles Dente at 201.670.0116.
Your Contractor-Customers Can Benefit Too!
Tell your contractor-customers to provide you with some of their
business cards. Ask them to show you their portfolios containing
photos of their favorite projects. Suggest that they respond to
every lead within 24 hours and promptly provide all prospective
customers with free estimates. And encourage them to use their
own Cambridge DesignScape Visualizer software.

Ruby/Onyx
With EuroTec Updating Pavement Quality While Backdating The Style
When these homeowners decided to replace their chipped, broken,
and faded-looking, 15-year old pavers, this savvy contractor showed
them his first choice — Cambridge Pavingstones crafted with
Eurotec. The existing, deteriorated pavers were not Cambridge
brand. The customer, a former builder, immediately recognized
the superior quality and lifetime durability of the Cambridge
Pavingstones recommended by his professional installer and opted
for a field of 4 x 8 Holland with 6 x 9 borders from the Renaissance
Collection in Ruby/Onyx. Note the unique “Malibu”
soldier course where pavers are laid on a 30 – 40 degree
slant. Alex Vega, the contractor, added that the customer liked
the look for the borders and the benefit of augmenting water runoff.
The 14,375 sq. ft. project comprises a driveway, patio and walkway.
“The distressed, vintage appearance was just what the customer
was looking for”, said Alex. “With Cambridge, you
don’t have to be a great salesperson — the products
sell themselves.”
